Future-ing
As the Guest of Honor at the Moscow International Book Fair 2020, Korea proposes "Future-ing" for the main theme. As civilization evolves in the 21st century, the future hits us with a sense of materiality and reality that seems inexplicable, for it comes from a time that hasn't yet arrived. The future is already here in some places—progressing, discreetly entangled with the present—presenting itself in different forms amid premonitions and images of revelation or apocalypse. We are witnessing today the "affect," or embodiment, of the future, as the force with which it hauls the present forward is equal to that of the history that defines the current moment.
The future society of the 21st century has already permeated our reality in the form of a techno-utopia. The remarkable advancement of science and technology is bringing about the Fourth Industrial Revolution, led by artificial intelligence. Twentieth-century cities are transforming into smart cities, as the Internet of Things, augmented reality, and the digital universe infiltrate deep into the physical world, transforming the structure of daily experiences. As it translates biological traces into algorithms, data is evolving to create a new kind of capitalism—one built on technologies that can predict human judgment and behavior.
At the same time, climate change and related ecological problems forecast macroscopic shifts in Earth's ecosystem summarized as the Anthropocene , alerting us to the need to recalibrate the future from a completely different perspective.
One of the major challenges in the future will be to construct a new "socio-politico-literary life" that can address points of contention such as economic and gender inequality, while versatile and imaginative approaches will be required to resolve these issues. How will humanity deal with an imminent and unprecedented future in which it will face post-humanistic transitions and post-truth phenomena?
This year's book fair will be a valuable opportunity to explore how Korean intellectuals envision the imminent future, to question and reflect on how Korean literature is tackling these topics, and to find out what conversations Korea and Russia can hold on these issues.

Baek Heena
Baek Heena has been named the 2020 laureate of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), the world's most renowned prize for children's literature. She started garnering international attention after being selected for the Illustrator of the Year Award for Cloud Bread at the 2005 Bologna Children's Book Fair. Lee Ukbae
Lee Ukbae tries to draw on and recreate the philosophy and beauty of Korean traditional art, including folk paintings of the Chosun dynasty and genre paintings by renowned Chosun artists such as Danwon and Hyewon. Lee Geumi became a professional writer in 1984 when her children's short story, Together with Yonggu and Heukgu, won the Saebeot Literature Award. Kim Hyun Taek
Professor of Russian literature and culture at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul. Specializing in 20th century Russian literature and culture, published numerous monographs and articles, including The Ice Rink on the Red Square and "V. Shalamov's New Prose: Kolyma Tales." Co-translated The Chunhyangjun into Russian with Anatoly Kim and published it in Moscow. Awarded the Pushkin Medal in 2010 by the Russian government in recognition of contributions to the development of Russian studies in Korea.

With a doctorate from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris, Kim HongJung currently teaches in the Department of Sociology at Seoul National University. Teaching students at the Department of Cultural Anthropology, Yonsei University, Cho explores the process of change in the landscape of poverty as the youth and labor, governance, and "the social" intersect, from an anti-poverty activities site to the Foxconn factory in China. Cho is interested in writing pieces that connect multiple worlds, restore ruptures, and fix the direction and speed of connection, with works ranging from newspaper columns to academic articles.

Jeong You Jeong
After graduating from nursing school, Jeong You-jeong worked as a nurse and then as a longtime evaluator for the National Health Insurance Corporation. The author began her life as a writer by receiving the Segye Youth Literary Award in 2007 with My Life's Spring Camp. In 2009, she received the Segye Ilbo Literary Award with Shoot Me In the Heart. Two years later, with Seven Years of Darkness, Jeong entered into the ranks of bestselling authors. 28 in 2013, The Good Son in 2016, Jini, Jinny in 2019 also became bestsellers immediately after their publications.

Do Sunwoo
Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Do Sunwoo made his literary debut in 2016 when his novel Sparring received the 22nd Munhakdongne Novel Award. In the following year, his novel Justice Man won the 13th Segye Literature Prize in 2017. Do Sunwoo was acknowledged as a newly discovered "hidden gem" and successfully became a part of major literary circles soon after his debut. Reviews on his first book, Sparring, praised the novel for being "an intriguing work that leads the readers through plot at a balanced pace," calling Do Sunwoo a writer with considerable skills and a wealth of experience.

Ilya Ruderman
Ilya is a type and graphic designer and teacher, lives and works in Barcelona. After completing the program, he returned to Moscow, where he has collaborated for a number of media: Kommersant, Afisha, Moskovskiye Novosti, Bolshoi Gorod and Men's Health Russia. In 2005-2007 he was art director for Afisha's city guidebooks, following which he was art director for RIA-Novosti, a news agency, for several years. Since 2007 he has also supervised the curriculum in type and typography at the British Higher School of Art and Design in Moscow. He has been very active as a consultant on Cyrillic since 2008. In 2014 he founded CSTM Fonts with Yury Ostromentsky.

Director Choi Young Seok is an artist who does photography and video works, who has a background in stage art. Kim began her literary career with "No Knocking in This House," a short story that won her the 1st Daesan Literary Award in 2002 and was published in the Spring 2003 issue of the Quarterly Changbi. Founder of Performance Group TUIDA, Bae Yo Sup has been working as the group's director for two decades since its foundation in 2001. Bae likes to work through encountering artists in theater, as well as in various other genres and fields surrounding theater. He is now attempting to tell the stories of contemporary pain and discord by defamiliarizing them, an attempt to share the experiences of understanding the world by awakening the senses of the body.

Han Kang
After making her literary debut as a poet published in Munhak gwa sahoe (Literature and Society) in 1993, Han Kang began her career as a novelist the next year by winning the Seoul Shinmun Spring Literary Contest with "Red Anchor." She won a number of awards including the Dongri Literary Award, Yi Sang Literary Award, Today's Young Artist Award by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Man Booker International Prize, and Malaparte Prize in Italy.

Kwon Byungjun develops new musical instruments and stage devices and robots for new media performance and exhibition encompassing music, theater, and visual art. Kim Cho Yeop
Kim Cho Yeop began her literary career by winning both the Grand Prize with "Book Missing Inside Library," and the second prize with "If We Cannot Move at the Speed of Light" at the 2nd Korea Science Fiction Awards in the Short Stories and Novellas category in 2017. She won Today's Writer Award in 2019 with her first short story collection, If We Cannot Move at the Speed of Light.

Lee Wook Jung
TV producer Lee WookJung is an experienced documentary producer of 26 years who made his name known through his cultural historical approach to and visual aesthetics of food and cooking. He is also the CEO of Food Odyssey. His major works include Noodle Road, which sheds light on the cultural history of humanity through noodles, and Food Odyssey, which explored culinary culture through different elements of cooking. He also produced a number of other documentaries that focused on Korean food and cities.

Ko Hyung Jin
Ko HyungJin graduated from Korea University with a BA in Korean language education, and an MA and a PhD in Korean language and literature. He is currently a professor in the Department of Korean Language Education at Korea University. He served as a visiting professor at UC Berkeley and as the chairman of the Korean Poetics Studies Association and the Society of Korean Language and Literature. He is the recipient of the Kim Daljin Literary Award.
