Russia and Iran Discuss Further Cooperation in the Publishing Sector at the 39th MIBF
As part of the 39th Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF), held from 2 to 6 September 2026 at Gostiny Dvor, a working meeting was held between representatives of the Russian and Iranian publishing communities. The meeting brought together representatives of the Russian Book Union, the Directorate of International Book Exhibitions and Fairs, the Iranian publishing community, and the Director of the Iran Book House.
The participants discussed the further development of professional cooperation between Russia and Iran in publishing and literature, as well as specific areas for future joint work.
One of the key topics was the renewal of the agreement on the reciprocal provision of exhibition space at major book fairs in Russia and Iran. The parties discussed renewing the stand exchange agreement, which would help maintain the regular presence of Russian publishers and literature at book events in Iran, and of Iranian publishers at the Moscow International Book Fair.
Particular attention was given to promoting the reciprocal translation of Russian and Iranian literature. The participants discussed opportunities for more systematic cooperation between publishers, authors, translators, and rights holders, aimed at encouraging new translations and expanding the presence of literature from both countries.
Another area of future cooperation may include joint professional seminars and educational events for representatives of the Russian and Iranian publishing industries.
“It is important to us that international meetings at MIBF serve as a starting point for further practical cooperation. Russia and Iran have significant potential for collaboration in the publishing sector – from reciprocal participation in major book events to translation, rights exchange, and joint professional programmes. Our task is to turn this mutual interest into concrete agreements and projects that will continue to develop beyond the Fair itself,” said Elena Grebeneva, Director of the Moscow International Book Fair.
The working meeting formed part of the international professional programme of the 39th MIBF, one of the key objectives of which is to foster direct dialogue between the Russian and international publishing communities and lay the groundwork for long-term cooperation between publishers and book industry institutions from different countries.
