RIGHTS SHOWCASE at CCBF 2020
In Shanghai, the Museum Line consolidates several cross-cutting activities of The Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF) and The New Moscow international children's book fair 2021 (New MICBF) in the presented selection of books: children's non-fiction, book illustration and book design, as well as Russian comics.

A special place in the collection of the Museum Line for CCBF 2020 is occupied by an exciting museum comic-guide for children and adults "Journey through the Hermitage. The Queen of Tulips" published by The State Hermitage and ARKA publishing house in 2018. At the end of the book, the artist Varvara Pomidor invites the reader to become a co-author by completing several creative tasks.

Museum Line shelf also shows 3 series of books published by the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the V-A-C Foundation for contemporary art, and Alpina Publishing (Alpina Kiids). The selected editions were released in late 2019 and early 2020. They represent contemporary Russian book illustration in the reinterpretation of classic works of children's fiction by contemporary young Russian artists, museum non-fiction, current approaches in the domestic museum educational process for children and, of course, book design.

The first three editions of V–A–C Press in the fairy tales for children series are designed and illustrated by contemporary Russian artists. The project is based on the traditions of Soviet illustration, whose representatives not only created books for children, but also played a key role in the artistic process of their time. Russian artists who worked on books for the V-A-C Foundation children's series - Pavel Pepperstein, Evgeny Antufyev, Svetlana Shuvaeva, Alexey Buldakov, and designer Tigran Avetisyan - continue this tradition, transferring their children's reading experience to the pages of books, creating fabulous images that remain in the memory and ignite children's imagination.

The book series of the Pushkin state Museum of fine arts with a remarkable design by one of the leading Russian design studios that works closely with museums-ABCdesign - is not only a window to the Museum halls, where amazing things and ideas are collected, but also a guide for young researchers of the territory of art and Museum space. The books are addressed not only to children of secondary school age, but also to school and Museum teachers for conducting classes. The authors reveal the features of the artistic language of graphics, sculpture and painting, speak in an accessible language about complex things, as well as about the techniques and materials of fine art. The books contain many illustrations and fascinating stories about the characters and plots of the works.

This year Alpina Kids published two wonderful books that can be called the simplest guides to the complex maze of cinema and music. In these books, not only children, but also adults can find answers to questions: How do I distinguish art from entertainment (and do I need to)? How to start exploring the classics of cinema? Will the movie die and when, or will it live forever? Should one love complex music? Why do we listen to music at all? The book "How to watch a movie" is written by the famous Russian film critic Anton Dolin and illustrated by Konstantin Bronzit, a famous animator and artist, an Oscar nominee. Ellis Mugafarova's illustrations in the book "How to listen to music" by musician and journalist lyala Kandaurova will also impress fans of book illustrations.

How to watch a movie
Anton Dolin, illustrations by Konstantin Bronzit

This book was intended as a children's book, but it turned out to be a book for everyone. You will learn the most important and interesting things about the vast and complex world of cinema in the shortest possible time. Anton Dolin, one of the most famous Russian film critics, analyzed the main questions about cinema and tried to give them simple and clear answers. Is it possible to protect yourself from disappointment? How do I distinguish art from entertainment (and do I need to)? How to start exploring the classics of cinema? Will the movie die and when, or will it live forever? Of course, this is only the beginning of a long journey for the attentive and biased viewer — the simplest guide, the rules of survival. But isn't that the most important thing? That is why the authors of the book took such a responsible approach to their tasks — Anton Dolin tested the text on his own children (the tests were successful!), and Konstantin Bronzit, a famous animator and artist (and also an Oscar nominee), created funny and unusual illustrations. With their help, you will make a wonderful journey through the maze of cinema — fascinating, mysterious.

How to listen to music
Lyalya Kandaurova illustrations by Ellis Mugafarova

Why love complex music? How does an experienced listener "read"? Why is it important to know different versions of the same work? What is a theorbo, ground and sonorika? Which Russian composer is a contemporary of Mozart? How not to confuse Verdi and Monteverdi? "The book has five parts: the first is devoted to the rules of a good listener, the second is a reminder of why we listen to music at all, the third tells about the main components of musical art, the fourth — about its history and past, the fifth — about the present and future. It is not necessary to read the book in this order — from cover to cover. You can use it as a guide that we discover in that part of an unfamiliar city, where our feet and chance have led us."

Journey through the Hermitage. Queen of the Tulips
Varvara Pomidor, Darya Agapova

They were there for different reasons: Vanya was hiding in the museum crowds to escape from fatigue and a sour mood, while Tasya had wandered away from her parents and gotten lost while collecting ideas for her album. The kids find that they have something in common: the ability to travel through time and space by gazing deeply and observantly into paintings. For them, the images become portals into a different reality, where they meet Rembrandt and his characters and also encounter the Queen of the Tulips.
